Autumn Open Mic

14 November 2025

We hosted our first Open Mic of the academic year on Friday 14 November.

We had a wonderful selection of performances from pupils ranging from new Year 7 groups to a new Year 10 band as well as our Year 11 Band. There was even a surprise performance from the teachers band: Mr Panteli on drums, Mr O'Mara on bass, Mr Smith on guitar and Mr Ward on vocals!

Pupils performed in various bands, groups and we had some solo singers perform to great acclaim. The event was a wonderful celebration of the musical talent at our school.

The next Open Mic will be on Friday 30 January. Any interested performers can speak to Dr Viljoen to sign up for the event.

The Geography department took over 70 Year 10 students to Epping Forest Field Studies Centre to learn about the drainage basin of Debden Brook before going out to investigate how this river changes along its course- measuring depth, width and velocity.

This term, we are excited to be running a medical mentoring programme with our Year 12 students interested in medicine. We are extremely grateful to our alumni, 2am Medics Mentoring for generously giving their time and expertise to support and inspire the next generation.

This year’s Sleep Out was, once again, a powerful event. Over 50 Year 12 students and members of staff spent the night sleeping outside in our Quad to raise awareness of the challenges faced by the homeless and to raise funds for JRS UK

Last week, we also held our annual Mass of Thanksgiving for Year 13 followed by the ever-popular 'then and now' photo slide show, collecting of hoodies and shirt signing. Again, we hold all of our Year 13 students in our prayers as they prepare for their public exams.

On Wednesday 22 April, Our Chaplaincy Ambassadors in Year 8 and 9 joined with students from Jesuit schools across the UK to celebrate the work of Jesuit Missions and find out more about the projects that they support around the world.

What a rollercoaster of a final in the Catholic Schools Cup last night! We went behind in the first minute, then 2–0, but fought back and with a last‑minute penalty, made it 3–3 to take the game into extra time. St Thomas More School won on penalties. Congratulations 🏆️
