Brilliant Club Scholars Celebrate Graduation

Congratulations to our Year 8 and Year 12 students who successfully graduated from The Brilliant Club’s Scholars Programme. Our Year 8 scholars celebrated their achievements at Lincoln College, University of Oxford, while the Year 12 group attended their Graduation Event at Birkbeck College, University of London. Throughout the programme, students worked with PhD tutors and took part in small-group, university-style tutorials. They explored challenging topics beyond the normal school curriculum before completing an independent final assignment based on university marking criteria. The programme supports students in developing their critical thinking, academic writing, confidence and resilience, while giving them a valuable insight into higher education. The Graduation Events provided a fitting conclusion to the programme. Students had the opportunity to explore a university campus, learn more about university life and celebrate their hard work alongside scholars from other schools. We are extremely proud of both groups for their commitment, maturity and determination throughout the programme. Their graduation was thoroughly deserved and marks an excellent academic achievement.

Y12 Sleep Out

The Sixth Form Sleep Out 2026 was an enjoyable, thought-provoking and inspiring event. I was initially drawn towards the idea of sleeping outside for one night, because of the fact that I would be able to raise awareness and money for homelessness which is a crisis that is often understated in light of all the other issues going on in the world. Mrs Ravat, as well as all of the staff who were there at the ‘Sleep Out’ were incredibly supportive and facilitating during the event. Although the general aim of the event was to enable students to understand what being homeless is like, my colleagues and I were able to participate in teambonding games. From games such as  ‘Splat’ or ‘Mafia’ the increasing togetherness of the members of our community, in attendance that evening was truly felt. Along with games, we were able to hear from the ‘Jesuit Refugee Service’ Organisation who work very closely with homeless people, in particular those who are looking for permanent residency within the United Kingdom. Our speaker was not only incredibly articulate but also very compassionate as she spoke of the experiences of asylum seekers of whom she has worked with. As for me, this talk reminded me that this event was more than just an opportunity to get together with my school colleagues but more so an opportunity to give hope to others who are less privileged than me. I knew that by sacrificing my warm bed, hot shower and hot food I would be able to make a difference that would exceed any of my expectations when the time comes to look back on the wider consequences of this experience in the future. Senior Football: Catholic cup Final Thriller Ends in Heartbreak

The Catholic Cup Final delivered a spectacle worthy of the occasion, as St Ignatius College's senior football team battled fiercely against St Thomas More in a dramatic contest that swung relentlessly from one side to the other. Featuring a combined squad of Year 11 to Year 13 students, the match was a showcase not only of talent but of resilience, determination, and school pride. The game began with St Thomas More asserting themselves early and breaking through to take a 1–0 lead in the first 15 minutes, finishing confidently and placing immediate pressure on the Ignatius side. Despite the early setback, the response from our senior boys was commendable. The team gradually settled into the match, finding rhythm in midfield and beginning to stretch their opponents. Their persistence paid off as Ignatius levelled the score at 1–1, bringing renewed energy to both the players and the supporters. However, just as it seemed momentum had shifted, St Thomas More struck again in the closing moments of the first half. A well-timed attack caught us off guard, restoring their advantage and sending them into the break 2–1 ahead. The second half opened in the worst possible way for us as St Thomas More scored quickly after the restart, extending their lead to 3–1 and appearing to take firm control of the contest. At this stage, many might have expected the game to slip away but our senior team had other ideas. Demonstrating impressive character, the team refused to concede defeat. They fought back with conviction, applying sustained pressure and creating opportunities. Their efforts were rewarded with a crucial second goal, narrowing the deficit and reigniting belief. With time ticking away, we continued to press, and our determination culminated in a dramatic equaliser to make it 3–3 by full time. The closing minutes of playing time provided one of the match’s most contentious moments. Ignatius thought they had completed a remarkable comeback with a late winning goal, only for celebrations to be cut short by the assistant referee’s flag for offside. With tensions high and emotions running deep, the match proceeded into extra time. Despite both teams pushing for a decisive breakthrough, extra time yielded no further goals. Fatigue began to show, yet the commitment from both sides never wavered. Ultimately, the final would be decided by the drama of penalties. In the shootout, both teams displayed composure under pressure, converting their attempts with precision. However, the decisive moment came when St Thomas More’s goalkeeper produced a crucial save from Ignatius’ final penalty, denying what had been a well-struck effort on target. With that stop, St Thomas More secured victory, bringing an end to a gripping contest. Although defeat on penalties is always a difficult outcome, St Ignatius College's Senior Team can reflect with pride on a performance defined by resilience and unity. Coming back from 3–1 down in a final requires not only skill but immense belief, something this team demonstrated in abundance. This match will undoubtedly be remembered as one of the most thrilling Catholic Cup Finals in recent years. While the result did not fall in our favour this year, the players represented our school with distinction, determination and sportsmanship whilst embodying all of our Ignatian Values as they remained gracious in defeat. For many of our students, this match marks the conclusion of their school football journey, and what a way to finish. Though the trophy narrowly eluded them, their efforts and commitment leave a lasting legacy for future Ignatius teams to build upon.

China Trip: Day 6 🇨🇳 Post 2/2 Following lunch, students took part in a martial arts lesson in Chinese! They learned how to use nunchucks and explored the role of martial arts in Chinese culture before enjoying sport with their language partners.     Video

China Trip: Day 6 🇨🇳 Post 1/2 Our day started with breakfast, followed by two lessons. The students first took part in a vocabulary development lesson before developing their knowledge of Chinese characters.

China Trip: Day 5 🇨🇳 Post 3/3 After Dinner, the groups participated in a Sino-British Friendship Social Evening. Year 9s were grouped together with their Language partners and completed their activities in Chinese. It was an enjoyable evening!

China Trip: Day 5 🇨🇳 Post 2/3 After Lunch, we visited a local secondary school where students performed a dubbing competition for us. Our boys had conversations with peers to better understand Chinese schooling, developing their speaking skills.
